USC Claims Victory at the 79th Western Intercollegiate; Buchanan and Greyserman Share Individual Honors
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The 79th Western Intercollegiate Presented by Titleist concluded Wednesday at the historic Pasatiempo Golf Club, with USC securing the team title in a tightly contested final round. The Trojans finished with a three-round total of 1037 (-13), narrowly defeating second-place California by a single stroke.
USC’s victory was anchored by strong performances throughout the lineup, highlighted by Jack Buchanan, who finished in a tie for the individual title. The Trojans entered the final round with momentum after a dominant second round of 334 (-16). Despite a final-round 353 (+3), they held off a surging California squad that finished at 1038 (-12).
In the individual competition, Buchanan and Dean Greyserman (Stanford) shared co-champion honors, both finishing at 200 (-10) for the tournament. Greyserman delivered the performance of the day, carding a spectacular final-round 62 (-8) to vault into the tie. Both winners now own the tournament record by each shooting a 62 these past two days. Greyserman owns the course record with a 61 in an earlier practice round. This is the first co-champions of The Western Intercollegiate after tie-breakers were discontinued in 2024.
Other notable performances included Jaden Dumdumaya (USC), who finished 6th at 204 (-6), and a three-way tie for 7th at 205 (-5) between Ivan Barahona (San José State), Jay Leng (Stanford), and Evan Rogers (Chattanooga).
