California Leads Narrowly After Opening Round of 79th Western Intercollegiate
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The first round of the 79th Western Intercollegiate Presented by Titleist concluded today at the historic Pasatiempo Golf Club, with the University of California surging to the top of a tightly packed leaderboard. Playing on the par-70, 6,493-yard layout, the Golden Bears posted a team total of 343 (-7) to hold a one-stroke lead over UNLV.
Team Standings
The competition remains fierce heading into the second day, with the top six teams separated by only five strokes. Stanford sits in third place at -4, followed closely by Arizona at -3. BYU and Pepperdine are currently tied for fifth at -2.
Individual Leaderboard
Individually, a pair of golfers share the top spot after firing impressive rounds of 65 (-5). Taishi Moto (Arizona) and Evan Rogers (Chattanooga) lead the field by a single stroke.
They are pursued by Trevor Cox (California) and Dean Greyserman (Stanford), who both carded rounds of 66 (-4) to sit in a tie for third. A large group of six players, including Jaden Dumdumaya (USC) and Trevor Lewis (UNLV), remains in striking distance at -3.
