Cardinal Takes Lead After Round Two at 77th Western Intercollegiate
SANTA CRUZ, Calif — The Stanford Cardinal overtook first place following round two of the 77thWestern Intercollegiate presented by Titleist at Pasatiempo Golf Club on Tuesday. The Cardinal were led by Karl Vilips, who shot a four-under-par 66 in his round.
Vilips was matched by Garrett Engle (Chattanooga) and Chuan-Tai Lin (Washington), but the low round of the day came from Rei Harashima (UC Irvine) who fired a five-under-par 65. Harashima birdied five of his last seven holes on the front nine and capped off his round with an eagle on hole 18.
Arizona’s Filip Jakubcik is the sole leader on the individual side after shooting a second-straight 68 (-2) in his second round. Pepperdine’s Mahanth Chirravuri sits one stroke back after firing a 69 (-1).
Day two proved to be a tougher day on the team side, with no teams shooting under par. The two best team scores came from San Diego State and Texas, who both shot a team total of 353 (+3).
Tee times for the final round of play are scheduled to start at 8:04 a.m. (PT).
