Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Western Intercollegiate, presented by Topgolf! Since this is the first year the tournament will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel, we appreciate your help in producing an event worthy of their TV audience.

Volunteers are truly the heart of any successful event, so we’re grateful to have you join us for this next chapter in the Western’s rich and colorful story.

Volunteer Roles

Walking Scorers

BACKUP spots available Tuesday and Wednesday.

Each scorer will be assigned to a foursome, and will be tracking scores in real time, entering them into Golfstat to keep the leaderboard up-to-date. You must have a general understanding of golf, be accurate in your record-keeping, and be able to walk the entire course alongside your assigned golfers. You will be carrying a clipboard for recording scores, but to submit the scores in real-time, you must have a smartphone that you are willing to use while working.

The foursomes will all have assigned tee times, so the volunteer shifts will have different start and end times, but you must be able to work the full day. Plan on a 5.5 to 6 hour shift, with an additional hour in advance for parking, training, and setting up. You will receive two vouchers for meals at the clubhouse grill, which you can redeem at the start and end of your round. There will be additional snacks and drinks available on the course for you, but you should plan accordingly.

Spotters

These spots are now full.
Please consider the Scorer position.

Each spotter will be assigned to a group, and will follow along inside the ropes. At all times, they must know what each player lies and what player will be hitting next, which they will communicate back to the television truck via radio. This role requires a very solid understanding of the rules of the game, good communications skills, and the ability to walk 18 holes each day. Spotters get to watch the action unfold up close, and there is no better seat in the house. They are integral to the success of our telecast.

If you can work on Monday and/or Tuesday, your shift will start at 1:30pm and end at 7pm. If you’re volunteering on Wednesday, your shift will start at 11am and end at 4pm. The Golf Channel production team would prefer to have volunteers who can work all three days, but will welcome and train anyone who can help. On the day(s) you volunteer, we will provide lunch for you, and you are also welcome to the snacks and drinks available on the course.

Hospitality / Event Logistics

These spots are now full.
Please consider the Scorer position.

Volunteers for this role will assist with event logistics, either in the morning or afternoon shift. They will receive vouchers for meals at the clubhouse grill, and can also enjoy snacks and drinks at the refreshment stations on the course.

Depending on our needs on-site, you may be asked to welcome VIPs and spectators, or monitor and refill our refreshment stations, or serve as backup for someone on staff. Other possible tasks include assisting with crowd control, directing traffic, or helping with setup or takedown. Please note your preferences for shifts and/or duties in your volunteer profile.
